Newsletter November 2014

Welcome to the November 2014 edition of our online Newsletter. Please send a link to this page to as many interested persons as you wish. If any of the external webpages linked herein have been taken down, try to find another source by cutting and pasting the actual title of the article into your search bar. To assist with a fair and balanced discussion, our primary focus is upon the side of the story you may not hear from industry and their obliging government regulators. Be sure to check out all our newsletters. Taken as a whole, they form a comprehensive overview of emerging technologies, scientific findings, safety reform, and the worldwide EMR debate.

EMR Aware is a not-for-profit association based in Byron Shire on the Northcoast of NSW Australia. In addition to relaying the latest news from contacts worldwide, our group provides commentary on local issues, as well as a range of free community-oriented services. The latter include educational literature, audiovisual presentations, and a DVD containing thousands of research studies on the adverse effects of electromagnetic radiation (EMR).

ICNIRP Workshop - Wollongong NSW

A risky balancing act.

The International Committee on Non-Ionising Radiation Protection will be holding a "Workshop on RF Field Health Effects & Standards" on 11 November at the University of Woolongong in NSW.

http://www.icnirp.org/en/workshops/article/workshop-rf-2014.html#tab1
http://www.emfacts.com/2014/09/icnirp-workshop-to-be-held-at-wollongong-university/

ICNIRP is the organisation that elects its own members, largely from industry ranks, and presumes to advise government agencies worldwide on safe levels of human exposure to EMR. These agencies, compromised by industry infiltrators, are in turn predisposed to adopt these recommendations. It is a kind of closed shop enabling financial exploitation of electro-technologes as yet proven to be safe.

It seems ICNIRP's role is to sift through the scientific literature, and discard anything that might frighten the sheep. The result is a policy umbrella, or belief system, that serves to reassure the commercial sector that they can avoid accountability or litigation for probable health consequences. Credible evidence for biological damage is typically obscured from direct view by aggregating all EMR research into a conservatively biased summary. This enables linguistic permutations such as, "there is no conclusive evidence of ...."

Here is an example of what some players would rather you didn't see. A partial list of RF research from 2012 onwards, kindly provided by one of our contacts. http://www.emraware.com/rf_research.pdf

The industry-preferred "research timeline" conveniently neglects to mention any agency not supportive of its agenda.

Fortunately, at least one well-informed Australian activist will be at the ICNIRP Workshop to take the "experts" to task. Actually, anyone can attend, provided they can afford the travel expenses plus a 170 Euro entrance fee; or if some vested interest pays their way. This is obviously not the open public forum so urgently demanded by many, and feared by those in control of this agenda.

If you are among the many that think current EMR safety standards are out-of-date, skewed toward commercial interests, or lack approproate safeguards, why not email some of the academics who will be hosting this event. Politely remind them they have a PERSONAL duty of care to protect the community. Most are already aware that their position is becoming increasingly untenable, and should therefore be keen to hose down any dissenting views. When you are able to cut through the rhetoric, you will be well on your way to appreciating how corporations routinely manipulate science to their own advantage.

WHO Is Minding the Store

Any discussion of "official" regulations would be incomplete without mentioning the World Health Organisation. Every few years their International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) undertakes a review of their ICNIRP-inspired stance on the escalating problem of EMR. In 2011, it classified radio-frequency electromagnetic fields as a "possible carcinogen" to humans, along with lead and DDT. Release of the next study has now been further postponed to the end of 2014. Here is an article critical of the process. "WHO draft of EHC for RF is late and Incomplete". http://betweenrockandhardplace.wordpress.com/2014/10/06/who-draft-of-ehc-for-rf-is-late-and-incomplete-consultation-is-futile-at-this-time/

Perhaps they are waiting for industry-funded labs to crank out enough inconclusive findings so they do not have to recategorise EMR as a "probable carcinogen". This is what is being increasingly called for in scientific literature, such as the following peer-reviewed paper.

Decreased Survival of Glioma Patients with Astrocytoma Grade IV (Glioblastoma Multiforme) Associated with Long-Term Use of Mobile and Cordless Phones. It concludes, "The highest HR was found for cases with first use before the age of 20 years. These results indicate a survival disadvantage for use of wireless phones in that patient group." http://www.mdpi.com/1660-4601/11/10/10790/pdf

Witness the transformation of Emilie van Deventer from promising student into leader of WHO's radiation programme.

Quoting from the WHO website: "The radiation programme aims to assure that the benefits of radiation technology far exceed any known risks." Is anyone feeling assured?

And from their 2007 study: "The monograph recommended precautionary measures include implementation of very-low-cost measures in the design and engineering of new facilities and equipment". Sounds like the classic juggling act between profits and collateral damage. What about future costs to the public health system for treatment of EMR-related disorders?

This chart lists numerous EMR studies that cannot be ignored. http://justproveit.net/content/studies

Taking Aim at "Claims"

Participants in the EMR debate routinely encounter statements such as, "there is no evidence of health effects from EMR". We have a file full of it, ranging from personal correspondence from CEO's and chief scientists to so-called "fact sheets". Our considered response is to post a copy of our free DVD to the person or agency responsible, along with a "Notice of Request" to support their claim. So far, none have. Instead, they quote each others' regulations, and a predictable selection of research cherry-picked to reflect their views.

However, a recent reply by an ARPANSA senior staff member did confirm they already know about the thousands of studies on our DVD which indicate adverse biological effects. None-the-less, they continue participate, at taxpayers' expense, in an orchestrated campaign of protectionism that discounts this evidence.

Once again, we find ourselves dealing with business interests who know the days of hiding the truth are numbered, and will do nearly anything to buy time. Below is a graphic reminder of the emphemerality of officially sanctioned consensus.

Why should they worry? Tobacco is still legal even though it has killed millions worldwide.

Not surprisingly, insiders who oppose this status quo may find themselves ignored, slandered, intimidated or worse. "Cellular Telephone: Russian Roulette" is a scientifically documented book written by a former engineer who himself died of cancer. A free copy, which we assume to be legal, is offered here. http://www.icems.eu/docs/Robert_C_Kane.pdf

The funding of Dr. Carlos' research was terminated when he objected to interference by industry and their ruse of passing off inconclusive studies as "proof" of cell phone safety. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lr7XUYhN3kg

In contrast, those with a tolerance for intrigue may be rewarded with lucrative research grants, or revolving posts between corporate and public sectors. For example, the current head of the FCC in the US, appointed by Barack Obama, is a former lobbyist for the wireless industry. The CEO of our own regulatory agency, ARPANSA, appears to have prior links to the Swedish mobile phone industry and equipment suppliers to the NBN. The result of our collective failure to learn from the past is that it repeats.

Here is the introduction to a two-part video examining the wireless industry's questionable record in protecting Americans from EMR, and apparent lack of enforcement by the FCC of their own exposure limits. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8oICZOtMwPo

Petition in Support of Prof. Olle Johansson

Since the early 1980s, Olle Johansson of the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm has worked tirelessly as the world's foremost advocate for people with electrical sensitivity (EHS). In 2012 he was forced to move to a much smaller workspace and had to discard more than ten cubic meters of books, records, and equipment. Now the Institute is proposing to confine his activities to yet a smaller workspace.

In Sweden, EHS is a fully recognized functional disorder, and classified by the Nordic Ministers Council as a work-related, symptom based diagnosis (lCD-10). Back in 1999, authorities published that 3.1% of all Swedes, corresponding to 280.000 individuals, suffered from EHS. In 2002, the Swedish Institute for Working Life stated that 12.5% of all Swedish electronics engineers suffered from EHS. In 2011, the World Health Organization (WHO) estimated that between 3-6% of the populations in the world suffered from EHS and that these percentages are growing steadily.

A report written in 2014 by Danish psychologist Eva Theilgaard Jacobsen condemned EMR research at institutional, scientific and political levels as a charade. Complicit institutions attempt to silence researchers who conduct unbiased research, have no conflicts of interest, and whose findings verify adverse health effects. Here is one such recent study by Prof. Johansson. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/25205214

Let's show our gratitude and support by urgently signing and circulating this petition. https://secure.avaaz.org/en/petition/Ceccatelli_Ingvardsson_and_Garmager_at_The_Karolinska_Institute_Sweden_Let_Professor_Johansson_continue_his_valuable_res/?teNrmib

Come to the Party - Victoria State Elections

If you would rather truth and human rights prevail in the EMR debate, consider supporting People Power Victoria in the 29 November State election. Their platform is centered upon opposition to the "mandated" roll-out of electricity smart meters, and commitment to a healthy environment for all. Given that nearly 100,00 households in the State originally refused smart meters, they are certain to attract many votes away from unresponsive politicians within the major parties. http://www.peoplepowervictoria.org.au/

Below is a reminder of how the Labor Party contrived to ensure their National Broadband Network would be able to install thousands of microwave towers without having, in most cases, to apply for approval at the local level. Yet another instance of callous disregard for reasonable concerns within the communities affected. https://www.parliament.nsw.gov.au/prod/parlment/hansart.nsf/V3Key/LA20090604019

As a result of this legislation, NBN Co. apparently feels confident to instruct Local Council staff on how to most efficiently accommodate their wishes. It appears they even offer an incentive for cooperation of up to $375,000. http://www.nbnco.com.au/content/dam/nbnco/documents/nbn-co-alga-guide.pdf

Prompted by this arrangement, some concerned residents have sent Legal Notices like this one to their Councils requesting details on financial dealings with NBN Co. http://www.emraware.com/council_notice.pdf

And where do the Greens, our "environmental party", stand on the pressing issue of worldwide electro-pollution. Apparently nowhere, as none of our numerous letters of inquiry have been answered. What are they afraid of? Perhaps getting blamed for being duped by corporate spin doctors and getting smart meters forced upon us. It never was about "saving energy". Who wants to get irradiated, spied upon and financially handicapped to help power companies stay profitable during a time when energy demand is actually declining? There was a time when "green" was associated with nature and healthy living; before it became co-opted by corporate scams, half-baked ideology and party politics.

Getting the Message

Not now dear ... I am feeling a bit too connected.

As corporate profits soar, the human tragedy marches on; this time hitting close to its source. "Cell Phone Company Executive Gets Brain Cancer." it seems he has joined a fast growing number of people who have developed brain cancer in the exact position they held their cell phones to their heads. Right handed people develop cancer on the right sides of their brain, and left handed people on the left sides. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1rgTpVIWBf0

Our own Telstra is hot onto it, possibly at the encouragement of their insurers. Now, if anything goes wrong, we can't say we weren't cautioned. Do you still hold your mobile phone right against your head? Read this Telstra warning periodically sent by SMS to its subscribers. http://www.news-mail.com.au/news/telstra-warning-customers-avoid-potential-cancer-r/2309084/

Fortunately, some consumers are now waking up. According to the poll on the webpage above. 73% of respondents find mobile phone use "very worrying". The rest apparently consider it less challenging to simply succumb to the pandemic of zombie-like techno addiction. And it may affect the DNA of humanity for generations to come. http://www.rfsafe.com/fact-dna-damage-safe-cell-phone-radiation-levels/

How can you divest yourself of moble technology when it appears to impair the degree of rational thought necessary to do so? The research paper below concludes that the 217Hz pulse repetition rate present in the TDMA signal, "exerts inhibitory effects upon neuronal excitability". In other words, it dumbs down the brain. F1 neurons are associated with perception. But there's more. The same internationally adopted GSM signal also incorporates a 8.3Hz periodicity. This is an "alpha" brainwave frequency associated with passive receptivity. Then there is the curious choice of microwave carrier frequencies, being 900MHz and 1800MHz. Their wavelengths, when corrected for the refractive index of brain tissue, closely match the dimensions of the adult human skull. The conspiracy-minded reader might wonder if this is more than just a coincidence. http://celljournal.org/library/upload/article/Article10.pdf

The day may soon dawn when friendly advice about the adverse impacts of electro-technologies are perceived as credentials of good customer care. Here is Volkswagen's offering. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JHixeIr_6BM

iThis and iThat

Welcome shoppers. Our amazing new technology looking over your shoulder.

The iBeam, and similar systems, essentially follow you around a retail store and send personalised sales pitches to your mobile phone. The content can be formulated (targeted) with the help of amassed data on your buying habits, prior geo-locations, and biometric responses which smartphones are now capable of monitoring. If it wasn't stealing, they would probably pull the money out of your wallet and spend it for you. Couple this with hi-tech neuromarketing, and the cost-conscious consumer is at a distinct disadvantage. http://www.salesbrain.com/

From Time Magazine, "How Apple Is Invading Our Bodies". Sounds like a bad science fiction movie. Maybe it is time to start asking questions. Has Hollywood sold us on the virtues of a programmed cybernetic persona? If we adopt this to cope with an increasingly complex and bizarre world, at what stage will we loose contact with our own humanity? http://time.com/3318655/apple-watch-2/

Google the friendly giant wants to put magnetic nanoparticles into your body to collect data on your health problems via smart phone. Good news for insurance companies who can then demand higher rates, and decline a wider range of claims on the grounds of "pre-existing ailments". http://tech.firstpost.com/news-analysis/google-x-labs-working-on-nanoparticles-to-detect-cancer-and-other-diseases-in-the-human-body-239466.html

And an excellent online slide show. Wire Them. Why Take an Unnecessary Risk with Your Children? http://rfemf.com/presentation/#/

Danish students demonstrate why children in Wi-Fi equipped schools may exhibit the classic symptoms of microwave sickness. These include headaches, dizziness, anxiety, rapid heart beat (tachycardia) and irregular heart beat (arrhythmia), ear and nose bleeds, tinnitus, red and irritated eyes, increased mucous and upper airway congestion, itchy skin rashes, abdominal pain, poor focus and attention, memory and sleep problems. Children are considered to be at greater risk than adults due to their smaller body mass and bone structure. http://thefullertoninformer.com/category/microwave-radiation-in-classrooms/

A Middle School teacher in Los Angeles fell seriously ill after a wireless system upgrade in her school in Fall 2014. She described her cardiac symptoms during a May 28, LAUSD Common Core Tech Project meeting, and was subsequently transferred to a Wi-Fi free school. The children remaining behind were not so lucky. Ms. Anura Lawson stated, "The students are having nosebleeds and the main offices are refusing to do incident reports. I have had two seventh grade students bleeding out of their ears." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wghaMbzRnb4

The LAUSD Board of Education forged ahead with a wireless technology plan in February 2013, even after they were presented with numerous letters from medical doctors and researchers, including the American Academy of Environmental Medicine, imploring them to use hard-wired technology in the classroom. http://wifiinschools.com/lausd-testimony.html and http://thefullertoninformer.com/#sthash.gG9pGxhh.dpuf

Another aspect of the school Wi-Fi agenda, and who benefits from it, is reflected in this media report. "Billion-dollar iPad scandal. Reading the Risk - Which Meter?

We increasingly dwell within an ocean of invisible energy waves, mostly of man-made origin. A dedicated meter is thus essential to detect and avoid unnecessary exposure, as well as to quantify the effectiveness of any undertaken EMR shielding. For 50/60Hz from appliances and power lines, an inexpensive "gauss meter" will suffice. However, most health concerns relate to radiofrequency devices such as mobile phones and Wi-Fi. There are numerous options, but the Cornet ED85EXS is is the meter we carry for basic readings. It is available from online auction sites for around $220 AUD. The modest cost can be shared among a few friends. Keep in mind that a formal EMR survey requires a professional with certified equipment. Here is a review of the aforementioned meter. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4DwmqO05ueQ

At the other end of the scale, any portable AM/FM radio will pick up "splatter" from RF sources, thereby providing a simple audible response. Here is how it works. http://www.electricsense.com/2901/how-to-detect-rf-radiation-using-your-am-radio/

If you are only interested in monitoring 2.4GHz Wi-Fi signals, there are several free Windows applications such as the NetSurveyor Net Discovery Tool. In conjunction with the internal modem of a computer, it will graphically display the local activity levels of all 14 Wi-Fi channels, plus name any accessible modems. In a typical urban environment there could be dozens. The program can be downloaded here. http://nutsaboutnets.com/netsurveyor-wifi-scanner/
