Newsletter July - August 2016

This free occasional newsletter is published by EMR Aware, a group of concerned citizens based in Northern NSW Australia. It is intended to help provide up-to-date information on the health, environmental, and social impacts of modern electro-technologies. This is done in the pubic interest to assist a fair and balanced discussion of the topics at hand. Particular attention is given to content that may not otherwise be made available or openly acknowledged by industry and their government regulators.

We invite readers to consider the scientific evidence and trending opinion on this page, and throughout prior editions of our newsletter. There seems little doubt a tobacco-style cover-up of the adverse effects of EMR is underway by those reliant upon its profitability or surveillance potential. Nonetheless, the FCC recently fast-tracked approval of the 5G spectrum. Below is a quote from Tom Wheeler's sales pitch at the recent Spectrum Frontiers Proceeding.

"(The) 5G buildout is going to be very infrastructure intensive, requiring a massive deployment of small cells ... (that will) open up unprecedented opportunities for frequency reuse and denser, more localized networks." He continued, "(We will) ... stay out of the way of technological development ... Unlike some countries, we do not believe we should spend the next couple of years studying what 5G should be, how it should operate, and how to allocate spectrum ... Man's enduring fascination with beamed energy.

The millimetre wavelengths of 5G, such as the 28-39GHz phone allocation, "bounce off" buildings and other obstructions. NBN Wireless Woes

Our current PM, Malcolm Turnbull, was the former Communications Minister behind NBN's choice of wireless internet as a cheaper alternative to fibre optic cable. Nonetheless, costs have escalated to astounding levels for a technology predicted to be out-of-date before it is even completed.

Stop the Waste

The group "Towerless NBN for Maleny and Hinterlands" recently prevailed upon Sunshine Coast Council in QLD to decline a Development Appication (DA) by NBN for a microwave internet tower at Beerwah. The grounds for refusal were:

1. The proposed development conflicts with the Strategic Framework of the Sunshine Coast Planning Scheme 2014.
2. The proposed development conflicts with the Purpose and Overall Outcomes and the Performance Outcomes of the Telecommunications facility code.
3. The proposed development conflicts with the Purpose and Overall Outcomes and the Performance Outcomes of the Scenic amenity overlay code.
4. There are insufficient grounds in the public interest to justify a decision despite the conflict with regard to the particular site.

According to the above group, similar towers were rejected at Hunchly, Eudlo and Glasshouse. NBN has been advised by Council that DA's for Palm Street and Burgress Avenue would also not be approved. Semingly oblivious to the implications of this, Kylie Lindsay, Corporate Affairs Manager, commented, "NBN consults extensively with the local community and Councils to achieve the best outcomes".
