Newsletter August - September 2015

In our June issue, it was announced this publication would change from monthly to quarterly. However, some readers expressed a desire to remain current with emerging events and trends. Accordingly, we have decided to adopt a periodic schedule and send out a newsletter whenever sufficient content has been compiled. As always, the purpose is to promote in the public interest a fair and balanced discussion of the topics at hand.

Public education is the key to adoption of safer technologies and exposure standards. You can help spread the message by forwarding the link to this newsletter to as many friends, associates and social media sites as you feel appropriate.

Adverse effects due to routine EMR exposure can take years or even decades to manifest. Part of the overall function of our newsletter is to serve notice upon Government and industry personnel active in this field regarding their duty of care to act upon scientific evidence. A personal message from Prof. Johansson.

During the last months, I have had the great honour to tour various countries, visiting EHS persons and their relatives, brain or leukemia cancer victims with relatives, concerned parents and staff with children in Wi-Fi based schools, smart meter opponents, and so forth. My visits aimed at assisting them, primarily with legal issues, but also to instill courage and weld more mental protective armour to all in need. Many of these persons, for obvious reasons, do not have any Internet connection or even a computer. This is, of course, especially true for EHS persons. Therefore I have been pretty "silent" for a long time. (I see now in my computer that I have approx. 2,800 e-mails to answer so be patient.)

In summary, I am very impressed by all the local as well as international supporting groups and persons, activist and campaigner organizations, and human right advocates. You are all doing a fantastic job! Also, I am equally very impressed by the persons suffering from the above impairments and illnesses. They must stand a reality the rest of us have not tested or even witnessed. I lift my hat and bow to them.

When the sun finally settles for me, I know that you too did your very best for Life on this Planet.

Wollongong EHS Study - Caution to Volunteers

Am I really just imagining it all?

Do you believe you are EHS? Prof. Rodney Croft et al, of the University of Wollongong, are seeking twenty volunteers for a provocation study to challenge the validity of such claims. The inquiry is psychological (subjective), as opposed to biological (objective). Hence would-be participants should be certain they can reliably "feel" the presence of a hidden microwave source, and not be susceptible to the sort of deliberate manipulation this type of protocol invites. The very term "EHS" was concocted to marginalise sufferers as delusional or abnormal, when in fact everyone is affected by EMR. If these type of studies produce the result industry wants, anyone self-reporting EHS may henceforth be directed to a psychiatrist instead of being offered effective medical care, or elimination of the cause of their symptoms. Being an person who suffers headaches, insomnia, head pressure and numbness in the face when I use wireless devices I am extremely concerned that the upcoming study being performed at Wollongong University by Professor Croft and his team is unlikely to be of value to those who suffer because of some major deficiencies in the study design. A number of sufferers including myself worked closely with Professor Croft and his team to provide advice on establishing a robust testing protocol, one that we believed would help establish whether Electromagnetic Hypersensitivity (EHS), also referred to as microwave sickness, is linked to exposure to manmade wireless frequencies emitted from WiFi, mobile phones and cell towers. To our dismay and frustration none of our suggestions were adopted. Personally, I believe the study design has been purposely constructed to avoid showing an association with the intent to support a psychological cause. I wrote an open letter over two months ago challenging Professor Croft in relation to what I saw as obvious test protocol deficiencies but a response has not been forthcoming. The main issues with the study are that it contains no biological tests, is based purely on subjective responses that can be influenced by a number of confounders, uses a provocation device that emits a signal that is not found in the real world and is seriously constrained with respect to timeframes for expected recovery - there can be a washout period where effects can linger for hours even days after an exposure that may influence subsequent sham signal tests. As I am impacted by these technologies I cannot in good conscience recommend people who suffer from this functional impairment to undertake the test in its current form.

Hard-wiring Internet Without an Ethernet Port

To reduce exposure to microwaves in the home or office, many people choose to "hard-wire" their computer to the modem. For this to fully succeed, one should also consider disabling the Wi-Fi function in both devices via their respective software interfaces. Check with an RF meter to be sure.

   

Even modems sold as "wireless" normally have a row of sockets in the back to accept an RJ45 ethernet cable.

However, an increasing number of Wi-Fi enabled tablet's and thin laptops (convertibles and ultrabooks) are no longer manufactured with a built-in port to accept a cable. One solution is a USB-to-ethernet adaptor, as pictured below. These are available for around $15, including driver software on CD. Transfer rates for USB 3.0 are nearly the same as a direct cable connection, and normally faster than Wi-Fi.
